Self Help for Surfers,Part II

Self Help for Surfers,Part II3.052

Hope you enjoyed the surfing tips from last week.  Here’s a few more I got from one of our Tier 3 Representatives, Neal Jones, that will help if you feel like doing some troubleshooting on your own.
If rebooting the computer didn’t get you on to the web and you have a wired connection, most versions of Windows have a built in function to repair a network connection.

For Microsoft Windows XP and earlier versions:
1. Click start, then click control panel
2. Click Network and Internet Connections
3. Click Network Connections
4. Double click the connection you want to repair ( this is usually named Local Area Connection)
5. Click the support tab, then Repair
For Microsoft Windows Vista:
1. Right click on the Network icon (looks like 2 computers overlapping) in the notification area. This would be in the lower right of your screen, near the clock.
2. Click “Diagnose and Repair”

For Microsoft Windows 7
1. Click on Start
2. Click on Control Panel
3. Click on “Network and Sharing Center”
4. Click on the “Troubleshoot Problems” link
5. Select the option for “Internet Connections” and follow the prompts.

If you have a WOW wireless connection and are having problems, here are some general steps to make sure you are connecting to the WOW! wireless network.

1. If you have a laptop with a switch that disables the wireless capability, make sure it is turned on
2. Check for the wireless network icon in the notification in the lower right of your computer screen, down near the clock.
3. If you put your mouse over that icon, you should get a message letting you know if you are connected to a network.
4. If you are not connected to the WOW! network, right-click the wireless network icon and try to connect to a network.
5. If the WOW! network is asking for a password, that will be the same password you originally used to connect to the wireless network.  If you don’t have your password, call us 1-866-496-9669 and we can help you.
