Keeping Up With Your New Year’s Exercise Resolutions

It’s a beginning of a new year which typically means many of us are making a commitment to getting into shape.  Gym memberships, expensive diets, exercise infomercials that get us to purchase programs that we didn’t need until we watched them.  How about saving some money on all those unnecessary expenses and making your own workout plan at home?

I love that our portal page offers our customers the opportunity to utilize various free workouts through Exercise TV.  They offer a number of different exercises such as getting in shape for that bikini (can you believe they are already in stores), getting your feet moving with some great dance moves or just a good old butt kicking from the Biggest Loser’s hardest trainer, Jillian Michaels.

The best part is that with many of the videos being only a couple minutes a piece, you really can piece together your own workout.  Instead of having to do the same workout day in and day out, you can keep it interactive, fun and most of all worth the time that you put it.  What are you waiting for, start getting into shape today!

Loving All My Apps

Who doesn’t have a phone, iPad, e-Reader or tablet-like device that helps pass the time?  As an electronic aficionado, it is imperative to have my essential apps from news to sports to entertainment.  My apps are how I stay connected with the world at large.

I recently welcomed the iPad as the newest addition to my electronic family.  If you have never heard of the iPad or not sure what it is all about, check out Steve’s blog about it here.  And as much love as I have for my iPhone, the love for my iPad is even greater, if that is even possible!  The nice big screen, the ability to showcase movies, presentations or even read a book at a moment’s notice makes this device worthwhile.  But, I soon discovered not all apps are quite ready for the iPad just yet.  That discovery helped me find some new apps that I wouldn’t have given a second glance to if that wasn’t the case.

Here are some of my favorite must have apps:

HootSuite – This app is designed for the social media watchdog.  I have found this to be the best app for watching multiple streams, keywords and other social media apps in one convenient spot.  As the personality behind The WOW! Buzz’s Facebook and Twitter, HootSuite keeps me on top of all the conversations.

Nook – If you love reading and are a fan of Barnes & Noble, the Nook app is a great addition.  I agree with Steve about the feel of a book in your hands but the Nook is so impressive that it truly looks like you are reading from a book.

Dropbox -  Tired of dragging around flash drives or external hard drives?  Dropbox is a great way of placing your need to access files in a place that works on your computer, phone or iPad.  I just recently tried it and was impressed at how easy it was to use.  You can even share files with others without having to send an email, especially if it is a large file.

Flipboard – The ultimate convenient app if you want to read your latest Facebook and Twitter feeds along with other feeds of your choice.  It is setup like a magazine that you can personalize and it flips through the pages with the flick of your finger.  Very cool.

Well, those are some of my favorite apps.  I would love to hear what apps you can’t live without.

Glee Needs To Do More All Star Episodes

I’ll be the first to admit that I loved the Madonna episode.  Who didn’t love Sue Sylvester’s tribute to Madonna through her Vogue music video?  Then came Lady Gaga, which I wasn’t gaga over but it still was a really good episode. When I first heard that they were pulling out Britney Spears as part of the second season, I was a little skeptical and not because I dislike Britney.  I actually love her music.  I just thought it was going to be somewhat cliche, but it ended up being a really good episode.  I loved how they used the fantasy sequences to have Britney make her cameos, but the cast did her proud.  That started me thinking on who else could the cast dedicate an entire episode to their music.

Here’s who I think the Glee Club needs to represent:

  • Mariah Carey
  • Beyonce
  • Prince
  • Whitney Houston (here songs would be great for a prom themed episode)
  • Motown (think Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder)

Tasty Treat To Say Hello To Fall

After the very warm and humid summer here in Chicago, this Labor Day weekend had none of that – it was cool, somewhat cloudy and temps maybe in the high 70’s.Chicken Enchilada Soup

With the fall-like weather, instead of firing up the grill, I decided to whip out a recipe that I typically reserve for the fall and winter.  A couple of years ago, I found a recipe for a Chicken Enchilada Soup that was very close to what you can get at your local Chili’s.  It’s so close that even my husband can’t tell the difference.

I love recipes that don’t have too many ingredients, simple prep and cooking time isn’t too outrageous.  In addition, who doesn’t love the smell of delicious food wafting through the house.

The Chicken Enchilada Soup recipe is pretty straight forward.  You might not have some of the ingredients such as the Masa Harina or Cumin but they are only a couple bucks each and you can pick them up at your local grocery store.

The nice thing about this recipe is that you can also put your own twist on it as well.  I like to add a little extra Chili Powder and Cumin.  When I serve it up, I like to add a Pico de Gallo, Cheddar Cheese and a little Sour Cream to the top.

What is one of your favorite recipes that reminds you of fall?

What’s On Tap For Spring and Summer Movies

I don’t know about you but over the past week, I think I have seen more trailers for the upcoming releases in May then I saw during the Super Bowl.  It always intrigues me why as the weather starts to warm up that they decide to put out some good movies.  With that being said, here are my must see new releases for May.

Iron Man 2

I love action flicks and the first Iron Man really hit all the things I look for in an entertaining movie: suspense, drama, action and a hit of romance.  The action sequences were awesome and I left the theater pleasantly surprised.  I am a little disappointed that they replaced Terrance Howard with Don Cheadle but it looks like it is going to be another hit for the Iron Man series.

Iron Man 2 comes out May 7th.

Letters to Juliet

Chick flick alert!  I am a fan of actress Amanda Seyfried and think she plays these types of roles very well.  Letters to Juliet is a romantic story about a woman who on a trip in Verona, Italy discovers a long lost love letter.  She decides to write the woman back which then turns into a whirlwind European adventure to re-kindle two long lost lovers.  I love romantic stories and am excited to see this movie.

Letters to Juliet comes out May 14th.

Shrek Forever After

The lovable ogre is back in the fourth installment of the Shrek series.  This time with a twist.  Shrek signs away his current life to Rumpelstiltskin which takes him to a world that nobody knows him and life as he knew it no longer exists.  Shrek has to figure out how to get his old life back.  The Shrek series is great for both kids and adults.  I am excited to see if they can recapture the magic that they had with the first two movies.

Shrek Forever After comes outMay 21st.

Sex and the City 2

Girls, get ready because May 28th can’t come soon enough.  The sequel to the Sex and the City movie is hitting the big screen and it looks like they spared no expense as usual.  The whole cast is back together along with some great additions such as Miley Cyrus, Penelope Cruz and Liza Minnelli.  I am very excited that they are bringing Aiden (Josh Corbin) back!  Many will say that the movie doesn’t have much substance but for those of us who fell in love with the series, there doesn’t need to be a ton of substance because that is what the fashion is there for.  Sex and the City 2 is going to give Iron Man 2 a run for its’ money.

Now that I’ve shared with you my movie picks for May, what movies are you looking forward to?
